Your Walk for Macmillan
Now that you’ve decided to hold your own walking event in aid of Macmillan you can use the Walk4Life website to create a route map and promote your event to help raise even more money for people affected by cancer so that no one has to face cancer alone.

Before you get started
If you’re organising a large walking event in aid of Macmillan our helpful “how to” pdf guide is full of useful information. You can download it by clicking here.
First you need to create a profile – to do this click on the blue Sign up button at the top right of the screen.
You’ll be asked to enter some brief details about yourself but don’t worry, we won't contact you or give anyone else your details unless you ask us to. Give yourself a username that reflects your event rather than a personal name.
If you’re already signed up to the Walk4Life website as an individual you will need to use a different email address for your new profile.
Once you’ve created a profile you can get started.
Create your map
Sign in (if you're not already) by clicking the orange Sign In button (at the top right of the page) and entering your username and password.
To draw your map:
- Click on the Create your walk tab
- Enter a place name or postcode in the “Where does your walk start?” box
- Use the tools on the left hand side of the map to draw your route line
- Give your walk a name, add any further details and click the green Save button
Once you've saved your map you can then print the map or share it with your participants using email, Facebook Twitter or Digg.
To create a group
Creating a group will give you a page on the Walk4Life website that is dedicated to your event. You’ll be able to provide a link to your map and include information about your event.
To create your group page click on the Visit our groups tab and then click on the green Create a group button (on the left hand side of the page).
Enter some details about your group and click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
Once you have drawn your walking route you can add this to your group page by clicking on the Add next walk button (right hand side of the page), selecting your walk from the dropdown list and enter a few details about your event.
Promote your event
To add your event to the Walk4Life events listing please click on the Find an event tab.
On the left hand side of the screen under the heading “Find an event” it will either say “How to search” or “How to add”. If you can see “How to search” then please email firstname.lastname@example.org and ask us to give you supporter status (only supporters can add events).
If you can see “How to add” please follow the instructions on how to add your event.
When adding your event details please include, either in the event name or description, "in aid of Macmillan".

It is the walkers responsibility as the event organiser to ensure that all precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the event is safe. When organising a fundraising event, you are responsible for making sure it poses no risk to others, therefore, you will need to carry out the appropriate risk assessments and consider whether or not you need insurance. In most cases, for public and/or hazardous events, you may need public liability cover in place. For private events this may not be necessary. Please seek advice if you are unsure.
