When you start looking it's amazing how much walking activity is happening - the difficulty sometimes is simply finding out about it. We're always happy to spread the word, so if you know of something happening why not drop us a line. Did you know, for example, you could join in a virtual trek around Nepal without leaving London?
This weekend is Walk London's popular Spring into Summer Walking Weekend - hundreds of guided walks are being run all over London, based on the magnificent seven walks, the London LOOP, Capital Ring, Thames Path, Lea Valley Walk, the Green Chain, the Jubilee Walkway and the new Jubilee Greenway. You can find the walks in our event calendar - simply search for an event in London this weekend and take your pick ! Don't forget to keep a record of where you went though, so you can add up your miles - you could also join the Walk London Challenge! You can find out more about Walk London by visiting the website: www.walklondon.org.uk. The team behind Walk London are keen to know what you think and are running a short survey on the site at the moment - they'd love to hear your views.
This weekend you can also join in the celebrations to mark the opening of Ladywell Fields in Lewisham. Join the party at 12.00 on 28th May and walk the Walk4Life Mile, and join in face painting, river dipping, and generally having fun ! See the event listing for more info.
If you've ever fancied treking in Nepal, and eating wonderful local food, but not been able to actually go there why not join in the HVP UK London Jubilee Trek ? On 16th July you could walk a 15 mile circuit (or a shorter one if you prefer) along the wonderful Jubilee Walkway in London, then end with a slap-up Nepali Feast on the South Bank !
The trek is being held to raise money for the Hindu Vidyapeeth (HVP) movement in Nepal. HVP runs schools, social projects and a Children's Peace Home for disadvantaged children, and is currently seeking to found a centre for its activities within the Kathmandu Valley but away from the pollution and noise of the city centre. This year is HVP's Silver Jubilee, making it another cause for celebration!!
You can find out more by visiting the HVP UK trek website.
It doesn't all happen in the south though, on the 20th May in Barrow in Cumbria an event was held to celebrate the launch of a new walking pack, and of course a Walk4Life Mile ! This is the first Walk4Life Mile event to get listed on the LOCOG website ! See the LOCOG site for more info, and photos. Any events run on Walk4Life Miles can be added to the site - simply let us know what you are planning, and send us some photos and we'll make sure you get on there.
A lot of you are asking us what is planned for Walk4Life day this year - we hope to be able to tell you more very soon - watch this space !
