Attention all walking groups - you could get your hands on a full set of fabulous HandiHikes maps simply by recruiting members to the groups that you have set up on the Walk4Life website. If you haven't yet set a group up, or haven't joined a group on the site we strongly suggest you set one up quick - it's an amazing prize, these maps are definitely worth having.
What are Handihikes ?
We first saw these maps a few months back, and we love them. HandiHikes is an innovative new range of 18 compact, waterproof hiking guides featuring 60 of the best walking routes in the Lake District. You can see the list of all the walks here. You don't have to be a mountaineer to enjoy the maps, there are walks for all abilities to choose from.
Perfectly-portable and easy to use, HandiHikes mean that you don’t need to be a seasoned hill walker to enjoy the beautiful scenery and famous routes of the Lake District, safely. Each HandiHike guide combines Ordnance Survey® 1:25,000 Explorer mapping data with detailed guided routes and plenty of tips about how to navigate and stay safe in the hills, to create the ideal hiking companion. Find out more about Handihikes here.
No more struggling to fold a large map in a howling gale, each cleverly folded, pocket-sized guide features a carefully selected area of mapping with a number of the best routes, all clearly marked and annotated with advice on everything from where to catch the best view to where to go for a cup of tea at the end.
How do we win a set ?
Andy, from HandiHikes, has very kindly given us 3 full sets of maps to give away. Because each set is 18 maps we thought they'd be brilliant for groups to own between them.
Here's how you can win a set . We will give a full set of maps to the 3 local groups who are registered on the website and have the highest number of members by the end of October.
National groups don't count, and of course sponsored challenge groups don't. We're looking for groups of friends, or colleagues, or neighbours, or whoever else you walk with to take part in this competition. You don't have to be a new group, all local groups can enter, all you have to do is get as many people as you can to join your group.
As always, this isn't open to Walk England employees. Only local groups can enter. The prize will be sent to the group creator, we'll contact them by email to request a postal address to send the maps to. Group creators can then decide how to distribute their maps.
The prize cannot be exchanged for cash. If we are unable to contact group creators in a reasonable time frame we reserve the right to award the prize to the next biggest group.
